It isn’t a secret that I have spent a lot of time in South Africa, but Cape Town will always be one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been to. The coastlines are gorgeous, the wine is delicious and there is so much to explore that you could be there for weeks.
After spending around 4 months in Cape Town, I thought it was about time that I shared my top 10 places to get those much needed shots for instagram – along with a chance to win a trip to Cape Town with Lottoland which is so exciting and I’m desperate to win a trip myself. Full details are at the end of this post.
Chapmans Peak Drive
Once named the ‘best drive of all time’ by Jeremy Clarkson, Chapmans Peak drive is a stunning drive around the side of a mountain, hugging the coastline of Cape Town with idyllic views. Some corners show nothing but the sea, and others you can see the city as if you’re on a boat out at sea. Its one of my favourite parts of Cape Town and definitely worth a great Instagram shot.
Boulders Beach
The infamous beach with the African Penguins! Yes, a beach in South Africa with real life penguins. I actually took these pictures at midday and walked along to a quiet area, so unfortunately there is a lack of penguin but if you search the geotag – you’ll see hundreds of people who were lucky enough to get the perfect shot!
Bo-Kaap
Bo-Kaap is a street in the centre of Cape Town where every house is a different colour. Its very busy with tourists so I recommend heading down early in the day! The residents are quite happy to let you take pictures outside their house, but be respectful as its their property.
Table Mountain
Don’t worry, you can get a cable car to the top.. but the most epic views are on the climb. I hiked with a few guys who live in the city so knew a great route, but this was taken after I was pulled onto this particular rock and had to jump back down because I was too short (not recommended haha). Its definitely my second favourite hike of the city.. second to..
Lions Head (Climb and Top)
The climb, again, is one of the best bits. Both images frm the top were completely different days. One day was super cloudy, we hiked through the clouds and watched the most incredible sunset from the top. Honestly, the first and only time in my life that I have ever been speechless. The other was a completely clear day and equally gorgeous.
Muizenberg Colourful Beach Huts
Cape Town is known for its multi-coloured parts, and the Muizenberg beach huts are no exception. They make for the perfect Instagram shot from various angles, but unfortunately I’ve only got this shot from a trip in 2017! This is also a prime surf spot, so if you’re keen to learn or already know the ropes, its where you’ll find some of the best waves in the city.
Noordhoek - Horse Riding On The Beach
Another amazing experience is horse riding along Noordhoek beach. I went with Sleepy Hollows riding school and we had a private ride and the beach was completely empty. All of the guides allow you some time to take pictures and I’m so happy with these gorgeous shots! I’d never been on a horse before and felt so at ease, so I can’t recommend enough.
Blouberg Beach
If you go, go at sunset and thank me later. Cape Town winds push the pollution out of the city which causes a haze out at sea, and it perfectly frames Table Mountain and Lions Head across the bay. Its one of my all time favourite views and its so lovely to sit and watch the waves crash in. There is also a fab burger restaurant called Jerrys and a sushi bar called Oyster Bay just behind which I highly recommend.
Kloof Street Coffee Shops
Yours Truly on Kloof Street is amazing for coffee through to evening cocktails. The interior is stunning with lots of plants, and its also a great street for street style. Kloof St is honestly my favourite spot when I’ve been to just go and chill out, or get pictures which fit well with my feed back home too.
Stellenbosch Wine Tram
The last place I want to mention is Stellenbosch wine tram. A little tram that costs £15 and lets you hop on and hop off at various wine farms for a little tasting and lunch. The tram itself is gorgeous, but at each stop there is stunning views and a chance to explore.
So, there we have my top 10 instagram spots, as well as fun things to do in Cape Town. Just by creating this post I am already craving a return trip so I can’t recommend entering the Lottoland draw enough.. Simply visit the Lottoland Passport, select ‘boarding pass’ to Cape Town and register to create an account (you don’t need to add money to do this). The promo code ‘COPPER’ will then give you a free bet on the South African lotto, meaning one entry to win a holiday to Cape Town! There’s also a few other places in the Passport so you’ll be able to check these out too – in case something else catches your eye! Please note this is 18+ only and any gambling should be done responsibly.
