Reasons To Consider A Trip To Benidorm.
Ah, Benidorm. The infamous TV series and a favourite amongst the boozy British holidaymakers.. but surely this little Spanish town has more to offer than beach bars and sunburnt bodies lazing all day on the sand, right?!
As a travel blogger, I feel that I shouldn’t only show the places you’ve seen all over instagram but also to help you to re-consider somewhere new that doesn’t break the bank, because we can’t all afford to jet off to Africa several times a year!
On one of my recent trips, I was invited to discover the beauty of Benidorm alongside Jet2 and the tourist board to prove that there is so much more to the town than meets the eye (or that you’ve seen on TV). So here is a few reasons why you should consider adding Benidorm to your travel plans..
Flights to Benidorm are Affordable.
I flew from Manchester with Jet2, an airline I’d never flown with but would definitely use again. The planes are comfortable and modern, flying to over 50 destinations across Europe, and recently expanded to New York. They are one of the only budget airlines to include 22KG hold luggage too. Flights to Alicante with Jet2 start at £25 depending on your chosen dates, but managing to book return flights from the UK including hold luggage for such a low price is a tough feat.
Find your Sense of Adventure.
I’m such an adventurous traveller and enjoying nothing more than getting stuck into activities while I’m on a trip. I’d much rather be exploring than lounging by a poolside so this was the perfect trip for me. Despite only being in Benidorm for a few nights, I managed to play golf on the Melia Villaitana driving range, go wine tasting, ride an electric bike in the natural park and try a jeep safari through the mountains. The jeep safari was provided through Marco Polo Expeditions and was a personal favourite. We saw a completely different side to the city and from the mountains its absolutely stunning. The tour guide was really informative and we even went through to a nearby town to stop for coffee and a little explore. There are also jet ski tours, snorkelling and other activities on offer and I definitely would have explored these more if I’d have been there for longer.
Head to the Old Town to Relax.
Like with any city, there are two sides. The old town of Benidorm is definitely preferred if you’re looking for a more relaxed break and offers a much more traditional feel. Benidorm has a really beautiful history and traditionally Spanish architecture with lots of taverns and tapas bars along winding cobbled streets.
The Accomodation is Beautiful.
Like with any destination, there are high end and budget hotels. Benidorm is very reasonably priced so a higher rated hotel is equally as affordable depending on your needs and budget. For example, a week at the 4* Melia Villaitana resort with Jet2Holidays will cost around £600pp including return flights.
I stayed in the Melia Villaitana, which is actually a golf resort situated just outside of the main town. They have plenty of amenities including golf, several swimming pools, restaurants, gym, spa and so on. I stayed in one of the suites overlooking the golf course with a gorgeous open plan design and more than enough space for a family of four.
There is a Range of Authentic Spanish Restaurants.
The Spanish are known for their Tapas and Pintxos and Benidorm is no exception but they also have a huge host of seafood. I’ve got a lactose intolerance so its often quite difficult to eat abroad but I really enjoyed the wide variety of dishes available. If tapas isn’t your thing, it isn’t hard to find a range of alternative cuisine nearby.
