In the last few weeks there has been more nights in hotel rooms than my own bed, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Last weekend World Meets Two got invited to stay at the latest CitizenM boutique hotel in Shoreditch and as its my favourite neighbourhood, we couldn’t say no. The hotel is located a short walk from Shoreditch tube station down a quirky little road with tons of street art to please artsy eyes. We actually found the hotel so easily and we were shocked by how tucked away it is despite being right in the heart of such a busy town.
The first thing that really struck us was the fact that most of the hotel is on the first floor, giving you even better views of the city and all check in/out happens via computer making it quick and simple. CitizenM offer you the choice of view and room too, so we picked a higher floor facing the west side which meant we headed straight up to the 9th floor. You can also opt to switch check out from noon to 4pm for an additional £29 but being in the heart of London, its better to get up and explore!
Now before we get chatting about the bedrooms, we have to discuss the open plan living room and bar. The space can only be described as an ultra-trendy hipster studio apartment with several giant sofa areas to sit and socialise or get stuck into a newspaper or MacBook (its hipster, remember). I absolutely loved the decor in this room as there were tons of artsy books, vinyls and random collectables like Star Wars figurines. Alongside the living room, there is also a bar with pretty much anything you could want, a dining room area and even some iMac’s if you need to crack on with some work using their free wifi.
Okay so now lets chat about the bedroom which despite being a small place is really well designed. The bed is a huge XL king with the comfiest mattress and duvet ever and a large TV opposite with free movies so you can snuggle down with a new release. Our favourite feature of the bedroom was the tablet that controls everything from the temperature, lights, television and even the blinds.
Alongside all of the tablet and giant bed excitement, the bedroom has a desk with UK/EU plug sockets for your gadgets as well as USB connections and a bathroom in a ‘pod’ with the sink just outside which is really handy for morning showers/makeup applications/teeth brushing so you’re not in each others way. I loved the mood light which made the bathroom’s frosted glass light up in different colours (meaning you can give your other half a bit of a surprise disco shower). There is also the features like clothes rails, safes and hooks for your coats but they seem a little boring in comparison.
Foodwise, we had a sushi plate between us before dinner but we mainly ate breakfast in the hotel which was served from 7-11am, a time which suited us perfectly because we could have a lazy Sunday lie-in before food. The breakfast costs £13.95 per person/night and is served in the bar with cooked English breakfast and a selection of cereals, fruit and pastries so you’re a little spoilt for choice. The cooked breakfast was really delicious and still nice and hot, complimented by our large cups of coffee and orange juice.
If we are completely honest, this is one of the best hotels that we have stayed in and I’ve never seen anything like it. A room at this place starts at £139 per night which is super affordable for the location. The decor made it feel like a very cool apartment rather than a hotel so we felt at home and I’d definitely use CitizenM again on my travels as they have locations around the world including NYC, Paris and Amsterdam.
