Welcome to Copper 2.0 aka the upgrade.. or just my first outfit post of the year.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't actually got a clue when it comes to style, even though I study fashion (which totally doesn't mean that I know how to dress myself...). When I shop, there is no real consideration other than 'this looks nice'. I don't think about whether or not it will go with other pieces that I own, or whether I will actually wear it.

Over the last few months, my wardrobe has been getting smaller and I've been attempting to 'invent' my style - not to try and change who I am, but to find my comfort, signature style. I've found it to be quite a good transformation so it only seemed fitting to share it with you..

- KNOW WHAT SUITS YOU -
This is much easier said than done. You need to know your body shape to know the styles that will look the most flattering, but then fit the style to colours and patterns you like. For example, I've got a really straight figure with no real curves and wear mostly plain monochrome/neutral colours. Knowing your shape helps when you're browsing for items because its easier to narrow down choices to buy that you'll actually wear.

- CREATE A CAPSULE -
I've actually just filmed a video showing my capsule pieces, but a capsule wardrobe is made of essential pieces which don't go out of fashion and work together to create various outfits with minimal pieces. Mine is made from jumpers, coats, tops, trousers and dresses (basically a couple of everything). My favourite capsule piece of the moment is my AllSaints jacket (shown in the images). This jacket actually comes from John Lewis, costing £328 which is pricey in the short term but it will last you a long time so it isn't worth sweating - this baby could last through to your elderly years (so you'd then be a pretty cool grandma).

- BUY IT BECAUSE IT FITS -
Obviously clothing needs to fit you, but it also needs to fit with pieces that you already own. Theres no use buying a nice top and then realising it doesn't go with anything in your wardrobe, which is why a capsule is so essential. When I go shopping, my capsule pieces are always in mind and I shop to fit them. This is the easiest way to get lots of wear out of everything (and it also stops overspending on clothes you'll never take the tags off).

All in all, its basically about dressing how you feel comfortable and thinking you look good in the mirror. I'm a sucker for chunky or oversized tops with skinny leg trousers, because it emphasises my best asset and hides my worst.

- WHAT IM WEARING -

I thought that since we're discussing finding your own style, it was fitting that I wore pieces that I consider to be very 'me'. I'm a sucker for investment pieces and currently obsessed with this leather jacket from AllSaints. They've recently begun to stock through John Lewis and the coats are so gorgeous its worth checking out. I went slightly minimal with the rest of my look. All of the pieces are actually on sale too, so the jeans and jumper together are now worth under £35 each (and 15% extra student discount if you buy online..winning!). The shoes are, of course, a big statement to this look and came from Kurt Geiger last year. They aren't actually sold any more but there is a really similar pair that are worth browsing..

I hope you enjoyed reading this post,
let me know any style tips you might want to pass on to others!
